One extreme type of body modification is scarification. African tribes favour this modification as a type of expression. The video below is about the 'marks of a crocodile' where a man has his body scared to resemble crocodile scales as a way of initiation into manhood and belonging.
When I first researched this type of body modification I was quite shocked at the extent that they go to to achieve these scars but also found it extremely interesting.
